The damage inflicted by a hurricane is the ultimate test of crisis management. I worked in the US Virgin Islands recovering the University of the Virgin Islands physical plant and scholarly writings after hurricane Marilyn wreaked havoc with the system of islands.
The picture below shows the destruction in the US Virgin Islands after the Marilyn. For all intents and purposes, the University was non-functional. Many schools make a large fanfare when constructing new buildings and facilities; imagine having to rebuild virtually the whole campus. UVI had to rebuild 120 buildings, reconstruct student records and computational systems.
I will bring the organizational and management skills required deal with and recover from a crisis to benefit Penn State. Imagine how things may have been different had this skill set been available to the board during the recent crises.
