Ted Brown, Penn State 1968, is President & CEO of KETCHConsulting, and is a recognized Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, and Risk Management industry leader, whose tireless efforts have dramatically increased the visibility of BCP/COOP RM nationwide and globally.
As a Penn State student, Mr. Brown was involved in the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), and the Interfraternity Council (IFC). He was President of Theta Delta Chi, Vice President of Alpha Phi Omega (a service Fraternity), and President of Parmi Nous. He has served in the past on the Board of Penn State Worthington Scranton. He is currently a member of the Centre County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, serving on its Board. He is also President of the Parmi Nous Alumni Interest Group, and a member of the Mount Nittany Society, Nittany Lion Club, Floating Lions Club, Tailback Club, and a major contributor to THON. He was an original Founder of the Beaver Stadium Suites and still is an “owner”.
Ted is a well-accomplished fund raiser, having raised money for Penn State Worthington Scranton, Theta Delta Chi, THON, Parmi Nous, Special Olympics, and Multiple Sclerosis. During a 30- year career at IBM, Mr. Brown served as IBM’s Eastern Regional Manager for its BCRS division, concurrently holding the position of National Business Unit Executive Banking, Finance and Securities, before retiring in 1998 to become a Vice President at Strohl Systems, the leading provider of business continuity software.
With 43 years in technology, Brown has contributed 22 years of experience to the Business Continuity/COOP, Disaster Recovery, Security, and Risk Managemnt arenas. As a Certified Business Continuity Professional, Brown has shared his experience and expertise through published articles, and lectures to thousands of business continuity/COOP and disaster recovery professionals. His lectures have been featured at CPM, CI, DRJ,WCDM, CA World, EPICC, DVDRIEG, MADRA, Summit, BOMA, COMMON, DPMA, Survive, DRIE, CPE, ACP, NEDRIX, and 7×24 in North America, plus Australia and Malaysia. (Every lecture ALWAYS references Penn State).
He also offered a great deal of time and personal assistance during the more than year-long effort to reconstruct the U.S. Virgin Islands after Hurricane Marilyn. Specifically, he was the Executive Leader/Project Manager for the reconstruction of 120 buildings on all 3 US Virgin Islands. He restored the University of the Virgin Islands after a disaster. He was recognized for this effort in 2002, when Ted, as an individual, was elected to the Business Continuity Hall of Fame, along with Rudy Giuliani. The Hall of Fame recognizes leading contributors to Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery. Other inductees have included James Lee Witt and Joe Bruno, Commissioner of the NYC Office of Emergency Management. Several years ago, Mr. Brown formed a BCP Consulting firm: KETCHConsulting. KETCHConsulting is unique in that they execute Business Continuity/COOP, Disaster Recovery, Security and Risk Management consulting. All consultants are certified (CBCP or MBCI) and get on-going training, and most KETCHConsultants have actual RECOVERY experience. Furthermore, they provide unique offerings like Work Place Violence planning and Executive planning for recoveries.
Mr. Brown is part of a three-generation Penn State Family: Mother: Ruth Morrow, 1943; Father: Edward B. Brown Jr. (Theta Xi) 1941; Brother: Gary B. (Colonel US Army, retired) 1983; Daughter: Courtney (Chi Omega)2002; Son-in-Law: Keith Cecere (Kappa Delta Rho) 2003; Daughter: Katee (Delta Gamma) 2006; Neice: Hannah Chakan 2012; Nephews: Shawn Brown 2013; and Daryl Brown 2013. Katee and Courtney are active THON supporters having both danced, with Courtney winning the Rick FunkDance Marathon
Leadership Award, and Katee founding the first THON Theater group. Incidentally, Ted and Courtney were the first Father/ Daughter Parmi Nous members. Katee ran in the second annual THON Express from the Penn State Hershey Medical Center to Penn State, and Courtney ran in the third annual THON Express in 2008.
In 2010, Mr. Brown moved his family and his business from Waverly, PA, to State College to be nearer Penn State and joined the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County (CBICC).
